We have stressed the importance of video marketing for well over a year now. Personally I have been using video heavily in my marketing for about 12 months. I have been teaching strategies to my clients for about that same length of time. I have expressed very clearly this year that Facebook would soon surpass YouTube as the primary source of video content.
Most people upload video’s to get their message out and watch their view count rise. Facebook struggled for a while but once they gave more edge rank credit to video posts the uploads went through the roof. This year Facebook added the view counter as well as the VIEWS objective in their ads manager.
When you look at how much easier it is to get a video viral on Facebook vs YouTube it’s clear why video marketers choose Facebook. Every time someone engages on a video it is then put in that persons timeline so that their friends can see it. This obviously creates a perfect storm for a video to go viral with good content vs YouTube.
I am unclear as to whether or not YouTube is working on a social component to create an environment that is more “viral friendly” or not. I am clear though that Facebook’s video views officially passed Youtube on desktop. If you are not video marketing you are already behind the curve.
